Baan Dalaa by Angkana sits amid the chaos of the Siam-Pathumwan area — a white colonial-style wooden house over 120 years old, dating back to WWII, by Saen Saep Canal on Soi Kasemsan 3, renovated into a genuinely stylish Southern Thai restaurant. Chef Annie, originally from Koh Phangan, set out to bring authentic Southern flavors to the capital.
The Baan Dalaa khanom chin set has 3 curries: crab curry sauce, chicken green curry, and fish innards curry, all boldly seasoned, eaten with fried shrimp fritters. The squid stir-fried in its own ink is the most delicious dish; the pomelo miang salad pairs beautifully. The pad mee pak mor with fresh shrimp has satisfyingly chewy noodles. The pirate's chili paste includes torch ginger flower, and the dry palo egg is rich and deeply satisfying with a full spice profile.
The Afternoon Tea set has a variety of sweets, and the torch ginger flower tea is really underrated — sip after sip, it cleanses the palate beautifully. There's a private room and an underground secret bar called Philtration. Open daily 11 AM-10 PM, near BTS National Stadium.
