Today we're trying breakfast at Tangjai Yang, a shop that's been famous for a long time on Thanon Chan, styled like an old teahouse. The beef congee is smooth, sent straight from Hong Kong, topped with peanuts, salted egg, century egg, and shredded chicken. The toast with condensed egg and red pork is excellent, and the instant noodles with braised wagyu shank in a hot claypot are rich and fragrant.

The shrimp wonton noodle soup uses thin Hong Kong-style noodles, with firm, bouncy shrimp wontons. The special red pork rice with fried egg pairs well with the shop's chili oil. New menu items: crab-roe fried noodles and crab-roe fried rice, both fragrant with wok hei; noodles topped with crab in a sweet, fragrant sauce; and a lightly sweet chrysanthemum drink we'd highly recommend.
