Smaller, longer battery

Samsung says it's about 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous model. It has an aluminium-trimmed button, and a silicone keyring case and a Loop Case are sold separately. It runs on a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell, rated by Samsung at up to 550 days in normal use and 790 days in Power Saving Mode. It's IP67, though Samsung itself advises against beach or pool use.

Longer range, if your phone is new enough

Compass View uses Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding to give distance and direction from up to 60 metres, about three times the previous range, then hands off to UWB for precision up close. Samsung's footnotes say only the Galaxy S26 Ultra, S26+, Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra support Channel Sounding for now. Out of phone range, the Galaxy Find Network (900 million+ Galaxy devices) keeps updating the location. The new Place Notification alerts you when a tag enters or leaves an area you set, like a cat leaving the garden, and is still labelled a trial feature. Location history covers seven days.

Works with iPhone, with limits

It's the first SmartTag that works with iOS. Through SmartThings Find, iPhone users in the household can view and share a tag's location and use Search Nearby. Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert aren't available on iOS.

Our take

Our take, from the official material rather than hands-on use: iPhone support is the real change. Mixed Galaxy and iPhone households can finally share one tag without fuss. The 60-metre range only works with this year's flagship phones, though, and there's no Thai date yet. If you want one, wait to hear from Samsung Thailand.
