Agave Fu Mui Kee 2, a Shell-recommended restaurant in Ratchada Rama 9, is legendary — over 90 years old and practically a Chinese-food institution. The original branch was on Surawong but has since closed, leaving only the Rama 9 branch. It's an old-fashioned Chinese restaurant of a type that's getting hard to find these days. The atmosphere is old-school, but the food is genuinely worth coming for, and it comes out unbelievably fast — we'd crown it Thailand's fastest-serving restaurant.
Recommended dishes: sirloin salad (excellent beef), pork ribs in sauce, braised ox tongue stew, Singapore-style fried chicken, crispy fried noodles, dry-fried fish maw, and buttered toast. Simple dishes, but confusingly delicious. The shop is open 10 AM to 8 PM (and the moment it hits 8, the electric roll-down gate literally comes down). Parking available.
