Today we're taking you to try stylish Southern Thai food at "Phuket Jade," hidden in the bustling Yaowarat neighborhood, right on Mangkon Road. The atmosphere is lovely — an old building in the area renovated into a warm, comfortable restaurant with a slight retro feel that still looks modern and inviting. There's an open kitchen too, so you can enjoy watching the chef prepare the food.
Here they serve Southern Thai food blended with "Peranakan" influence — the culture of mixed Malay-Chinese heritage — which gives the flavors something special. The crispy shell-cup scallop lon (190++) comes in a black-dough cup, crisp outside and soft inside, filled with a coconut milk lon eaten with sweet, juicy Hokkaido scallop.
Phuket-style fried moo hong (350++) is pork stewed until fall-apart tender, then fried until the outside turns crisp, drizzled with a rich, sweet-salty moo hong sauce. There's a wide range of other dishes too: crispy-skin duck breast with grape and sesame salad, Chaiya-style pad thai, stir-fried melinjo leaf with egg and pork lard, Chaiya salted-egg pork lard fried rice, and kua curry with betel leaf, melinjo leaf, and fried tofu. We'd recommend calling ahead to reserve a table. Open Thursday–Monday, 11:30 AM–2:30 PM and 4:30–9:30 PM.
