RIMOWA has launched two seasonal colours, Umber and Ultramarine, for its Essential (polycarbonate suitcases) and Groove (leather bags) collections. The theme is the relationship between colour and material, according to the press release the brand issued from Cologne on 5 October 2026.

Two colours, two stories from the world of pigment

Umber is an earthy brown natural pigment, often the first layer in a painting. The name comes from the Latin "umbra", meaning shadow, and it casts a warm tone. Ultramarine is a vibrant blue derived from lapis lazuli, revered by artists since the Renaissance. RIMOWA calls it "deep, mesmerising, and velvety" and presents it as an homage to alchemy.

Joe Alwyn and the new studio

English actor Joe Alwyn stars in the campaign as a young artist moving into a new studio. He turns an unfamiliar space into a world of his own with the same pigments artists have used for centuries, and as the days pass the blue and brown seep into his daily life.

The Essential cases are colour-matched from the handle and zipper to the logo badge and wheel housing, for a seamless monochrome look. The spec list is the practical kind: a stage-free telescopic handle, the Multiwheel system, TSA-approved locks and a complimentary leather address tag.

Our take

In our opinion (based on the press images and specs, not on handling the pieces), the smart part is the restraint. Instead of shouting with a loud colour, RIMOWA picks two shades with real art-history roots and paints each piece as one from handle to badge. Brown looks like the easier everyday pick, blue is the head-turner, and the Mini Shopping Bag is probably the one people will chase.
