If you like staycations that aren't too far away, we'd recommend Kalanan Riverside Resort — a super-relaxing riverside stay for nature lovers, located right in Nonthaburi, just a short trip to escape the city chaos. The hotel sits right on the river, full of greenery throughout. Waking up to a river view in the morning genuinely feels like a real break. The decor is a simple, well-balanced retro style; rooms are spacious and clean, with soft beds for comfortable sleep and full amenities — some rooms even have river views.
The food at Fa Prapha restaurant is excellent, serving traditional Thai dishes with well-seasoned flavor. Fluffy fried catfish stir-fried with chili paste has the best curry-paste flavor. Salted beef simmered in mellow coconut milk. Crispy rice cake with chicken curry paired with a mild egg curry. Fried Spanish mackerel with lemongrass is delicious. Crab meat stir-fried with yellow chili is sweet, fragrant, and just spicy enough. Scallop pad cha uses house-pounded curry paste, intensely flavored. Massaman curry with sous-vide beef is tender, and the tom yum with pork ribs and bamboo shoot uses ingredients specific to Koh Kret.
Breakfast includes egg-in-a-pan, tom yum noodles, and plenty of other options. For dinner, we'd recommend Song Fang Klong (part of the same restaurant group), a relaxed spot to enjoy music by the water, serving fried rice, soft-shell crab stir-fried with curry powder, and squid stir-fried with holy basil. There are also painting sets and cooking classes here, plus the chance to paddle a boat to collect ingredients from the hotel's organic garden.
