Spanish fine dining at SOPA in the Bang Phlat area, by Chef Kapper, who studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Thailand, France, and Spain in that order, and fell in love with Spanish food's blend of multiple cultures. Today we tried the 9-course fine dining menu.
Black Iberico Ham opens things beautifully from the first bite. Picnic with Montserrat Grandma, inspired by a Spanish grandmother's picnic, features 14-hour sous vide oxtail, cod in SOPA's pink sauce, a special anchovy-topped croquette, and fried padron peppers.
Fideua, crispy baked spaghetti soaking up sauce, topped with hamachi. Maguro Tataki, tuna tartare with a fruit sauce. Paella, generously loaded with Thai prawns, Japanese rice soaking up the sauce beautifully. Cannelloni, vegetarian with spinach and mushroom. Iberico Pork Tenderloin, marinated 2 hours.
It finishes with Sangria Sorbet and Crema Catalana, flambéed with whisky before serving. All 9 courses run 2,800 baht, add wine pairing for 2,600 baht. There's also a 5-course option at 1,400 baht and a 3-course option at 900 baht. Open Tuesday-Sunday 6-11 PM, closed Monday. Call 065-971-5977.
