Apple unveiled an all-new MacBook Pro on 28 October 2026, and the long-rumoured touch-screen Mac is real. It has an OLED panel Apple calls PROLED XDR, comes in 14- and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max, and starts at 104,900 baht in Thailand. Apple says only that it will be on sale here "soon". This is a summary of Apple Thailand's press release; we haven't handled one yet.

PROLED XDR: a two-layer OLED

The headline is a tandem (two-layer) OLED display with up to 2,000 nits for both HDR and SDR, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a 10–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and both P3 and Adobe RGB colour, which photographers and designers have long wanted. Apple calls it "the world's best laptop display". A Nano-texture option is still available. Slimmer bezels take the 16-inch screen to 16.3 inches and the 14-inch to 14.2.

Touch, plus Dynamic Island

Touch sensors are built into the panel itself rather than layered on top. You can scroll, pinch to zoom, drag slides and double-tap a window to fill the screen, and many existing apps work right away because macOS turns taps into clicks. Apple names apps updated for touch, including Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and Blender. A redesigned hinge keeps the screen steadier when you touch it, and Dynamic Island comes to the Mac for calls, music and Live Activities.

Thinner, lighter, Apple's fastest laptop chips

The 14-inch weighs 1.38 kg (0.23 kg lighter) and the 16-inch 1.82 kg (0.32 kg lighter). Battery life is up to 24 hours, with 50% in 30 minutes of fast charging. M5 Pro and M5 Max take up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage, and Apple says the M5 Max can run LLMs with hundreds of billions of parameters on-device.

The six-speaker system gets 50% deeper bass, with studio-quality mics and a 12MP Center Stage camera. Ports remain generous: three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack. It drives up to three external displays (M5 Pro) or four (M5 Max), with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and macOS 27.

In our view (from official information, not hands-on), the PROLED XDR display and touch are the real reasons to upgrade. Starting just above 100,000 baht, it suits creatives who will use that screen seriously. If your work is mostly documents and the web, a MacBook Air or a cheaper entry MacBook Pro is plenty. How useful touch is on macOS is something we'll judge once we've tried one.
